Obituary

Virginia Lynn “Ginny” Fulton, 79, formerly of Columbia City, passed away at 6:56 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2026, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington.

Born on September 9, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Ralph J. and Betty I. (Scott) Knecht. Growing up in Columbia Twp., she graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1964.

In 1972, she went to work for the former United Telephone in Columbia City and the various subsequent identities (Sprint, Embarq, CenturyLink, Brightspeed), working in their Columbia City, Warsaw, and Fortville offices, retiring from the Plymouth office in 1999.

She was an active member of Aglow International in South Bend and Plymouth, often serving brunch to children and the elderly. She knitted blankets for the organization and those around her. She helped spread the word of the Lord through her faithful service. Virginia was a member of Christian Center Church, then later a member of Christ Chapel, both churches were pastored by Steve Sumrall. Recently, she attended Victory Christian Fellowship Church in Columbia City.

Ginny is survived by her daughter, Angela (Michael) Poor of Columbia City; four grandchildren, Jessica (Jered) Brinkman of Andrews, Indiana, Tyler Poor of Fort Wayne, Bradley (Savanha) Poor of Columbia City and Elizabeth (Peyton) Poor of Plant City, FL; three great-grandchildren; and siblings Benjamin (Gina) Knecht of Columbia City, Sarah (Robert) Reilly of South Whitley, and James Knecht of Columbia City.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn Knisely, and her brother, Robert Knecht.

The funeral service is 1 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 9th) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City. Burial is at the Greenhill Cemetery in Columbia City. Visitation is from 12 noon until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Ginny’s honor are to Aglow International or Provident Ministries.
