William Lyle Miller , 83, of South Whitley, died peacefully at his home at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Born on May 7, 1942, in Battle Creek, Michigan, he was raised by his uncle Charles "Chuck" and aunt Ruth Milledge. Growing up in Fort Wayne, he graduated from North Side High School in 1960. Joining the U.S. Army, he was honorably discharged on September 19, 1965.
Returning to the area, he started an auto repair shop in Fort Wayne, which he owned and operated until 1996. In 1978, he joined the Allen County Sheriff Department, completing the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He eventually became a training officer, retiring in 1996.
On July 7, 2007, he married Linda Howard. They made their first home at North Webster Lake. In 2013, the couple moved to South Whitley. Linda died on October 5, 2022.
Retiring to the lake, he enjoyed fishing or simply spending time relaxing at his lake home. A NASCAR fan, he was partial to the Ford drivers. As his mobility decreased, he enjoyed joining his friend every morning at Moyer's Corner Café in South Whitley. He was a member of AmVets Post 2919, South Whitley, and the North Webster Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are children, Lewis (Debbie) Sarazen and Richard (Beth Ann) Sarazen, both of Fort Wayne, Tonya (David) Warner of South Whitley, Michelle Hobbs of South Whitley, and Nichole (Brian) Powell of Kissimmee, FL; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by a son Guy Music; brothers, Raymond, Irvin, Wayne, Robert, and Joseph Miller; aunts, Ruth Milledge and Betty Spillers; and grandsons, Adam Porter and Scotty Sarazen.
Bill desired to have no services. He will be entombed at the Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, at a later date.
